How to system restore or delete everything from hard drive (laptop) with a bad, non working video card?

I'm wondering if it is possible to delete everything from my laptop's hard drive with a bad video card. My hp dv2000 turns on but shows nothing on the screen. I am wanting to sell it so I don't have my information on the hard drive to be leaked. If you don't want anyone to get any of the info destroy the platters.
