Is is possible to play Sims 3 without a certain video card?

My computer is old, not the new Windows or Mac or whatever. I bought Sims 3 but whenever I try to play it it says I need this certain video card. Is it possible to play with my regular video card?

P.S. The video card I'm 'supposed' to have is a video card from the 'hightech' computers. PLEASE HELP!|||You shouldn't need an ultra high end card to run sims 3 (sims 3 wont be as demanding as most other games like first person shooters etc), though you may need a minor upgrade to meet the minimum requirements.

It may be possible for you to get an AGP or PCI card that is significant enough of an upgrade to play Sims3 without having to break the bank.

What is a good temperature for the 8800GT Video Card?

How Hot can this Video card be? I just overclocked this card from the stock 600mhz core clock to 700mhz so i can Play Crysis WH in high settings. temperature ranges from 70-75 Celsius; it changes depending if there's to much action in the game.

Can this Card handle this temperatures without giving problems? So far everything runs stable. Or what should be the temperature for this card?|||Company line is it's rated up to 100c (Celsius) , but not something I would want to stay at for too long. Up to 80C, I would start to worry about. 85C would be my red-zone. If 75C is your load temp, it's no problem.

Roger, on another question you asked: Your hardware will support both 32 bit or 64 bit Vista. However, unless you intend to run 64 bit games, you will get no benefit. Also some 32 bit applications will not have all the features in 64 bit as the do with 32 bit. 64 bit Vista will not make your 32 bit applications run better. As an example, MS's own Office Suite software will not perform all the applications it does on 32 bit. I would not upgrade to 64 bit Vista based on your current requirements. Spend your money on something else or save it for something else in the future.

I hope that helps|||The cards are fairly durable. 70-75 is on the hotter side. My GTX will run that, but the two cards are very different.

What type of case cooling do you have?|||75 degrees under load i.e. playing crysis are good temps!! Remember graphic's cards are designed to run alot hotter then cpu's. If however you wish to lower it while gaming download rivatuner an adjust your fan speed before you start gaming. I personally would not bother though.

If you have a desktop, youll need to upgrade everything except RAM

You need a 500W PSU, at least an intel core i5 or AMD phenom II x4. And youll also need a new motherboard because you dont have a PCIe x16 express slot or a new socket for the processor,

techincally the processor is good enough, but its highly recommended to upgrade to an I5 or AMD phenom II x4.

Also, you will need at least a 400W (around there too lazy to look it up right now) PSU to power the GPU. The PSU must also supply a 6-pin PCIe power connector or you will need a molex to 6-pin adapter.

How do i install a video card if the one i'm currently using is built in the motherboard?

do i have to uninstall the motherboard video card first? or can i put the video card already, then install while i am still using the motherboard video card? help!|||Since currently you are using the onboard graphic, so you cannot remove the graphic card. Otherwise your motherboard will be spoilt. There is only one chip inside motherboard for graphic processing. No need to remove any graphic driver.

Then just install the new additional graphic card. Make sure the graphic card socket is correct. AGP socket is for previous version and PCI-E for latest version. After you fixed in the graphic card, the graphic processing will be priority switch to the additional graphic card. So don't connect your monitor to the onboard VGA socket. Use the additional graphic card socket.

After fixed it, ON your PC then put in the graphic card driver CD. Then it should be no problem after this.|||It really depends. Some smart motherboards will automatically disable the onboard graphics when you install a new video card. Some wont do that, and youll have to disable the onboard graphics yourself, though that can differ between computers. If you have to disable them yourself, it can usually be done through BIOS.|||You don't switch it out its permanitly on the motherboard and you need to see if your motherboard supports PCI-E or PCI because some graphics card take different slots.

My computer is a Compaq Presario SR2150NX. its a couple of years old. What kind of video card can I put in a IBM desktop?

My mom purchased a system from a company here that was getting rid of their older systems. It's an IBM desktop (the flat ones that you put the monitor on top of) and all the parts are integrated into the board. It's a Pentium 4, so it's a decent processor, but the video card or chip set isn't compatible with most of the games my daughter wants to play on it. I was told that she's going to need a low profile video card and the GeForce PCI 5200 didn't work in it, as the metal "backing" was too long. How to check video card and motherboard compatibility?

I am thinking about buying the Gigabyte GA-X58-UD5 motherboard and the XFX-585A-ZNFC video card.

I checked the specifications and the card will fit in the motherboard. PCI express x16.

Are there any other compatibility issues I need to worry about?

Also I am going to use an i7-930|||As long as the graphics card fits the slot (which pretty much all new motherboards have a PCIe-x16, and pretty much all new graphics cards fit that slot), it should work.

The one thing you should look out for is your power supply. Make sure your power supply is at least 500W (it probably says it on the side, or if you're buying, check it in the specs), because that is the minimum required for that graphics card. the rest of the system requirements are:

"PCI Express or PCI Express 2.0 compliant motherboard with one X16 graphics slot

500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)

Certified power supplies are recommended.

Minimum 1GB of system memory"

If you've got all that, it will work!

As for the processor, it requires an LGA 1366 socket type, which that motherboard does have, so you're good to go!|||You can run the 5850 on that board with no problems as it has 3 PCIe slots....You could run Tri Crossfire or Tri Sli......That's a nice board.......

It all depends how much your willing to spend....

Thanks|||The next gen of card are here. The GTX 260 is going to be $400. The ATI 4870 will be released in 2 days.

Your 7950gt's would be the equivalent of an 8800gt probably. You'd need to get an 8800gtx, 9800gtx, 9800gx2, gtx 260, or gtx 280, or 4870, for it to be a drastic upgrade.

The 9800gtx is only $199 right now. A really good buy. If you sli two of those, it would blow your system out of the water.

If you are on a budget I might tell you to hold off a bit till the 8800 gets a little lower in price but otherwise you could go with 2 8500 gts they got lots of memory and would be sweet together or if you want ot max it out go with 2x 8800 gts but overall I think you are in good shape right now. I know a lot of people are going to be telling you to max it out but if that were me I would wait. In a few months the graphics card will drop in price and you will be buying the same card but for sometimes 1/4 less than it is right now.|||If you upgrade to two 8800GTs, you will smoke nearly every other video card setup right now(except for nVidias new line [GeForce 200 series) that came out a few days ago). All for about $300. If you wait a little while, the price is sure to drop a little. The 8800 I bought 3 months ago costs $100 more than they do now.

The performance will be great, and the new Generations also support DX10 which the 7950 GT does not.

I'm planning to buy gefroce 5700 256 Mb (128 bit) DDR2. Is it OK?|||Yes, it will be fine. The memory on the video card is only used by the GPU on the card. What are your opinions on this video card?

I can't seem to find any reviews on this video card, and I'm not really an expert on this stuff: Sapphire 100315TXSR Radeon HD 6850 Toxic Edition Video Card. Sapphire is a good brand, and you should definitely get the HD 6850 over the GTX 550Ti.

If you want a review from me, all the cards are the same in each brand just different cooling. That Toxic Edition should work just fine.

What if a video card has no fan or cooling system?

I am considering buying a Radeon HD 2400 PCI video card for my Dimension 3000 desktop (it seems it's my best option for gaming without PCI-E slots), but it doesn't have a fan. What happens if you don't have a fan? Does it just get really hot?|||Theoretically, the card should be designed in such a way as to dissipate the heat that it generates. However the newer cards (and by newer I mean within the last 5 years or so) tend to generate more heat. Heat of course increases the overall temperature of your system while lowering the life span of your hardware. This is a good card, but I would get an 80mm case fan or something near it just to attempt to dissipate some of the heat produced to help your system and card last longer.|||a fan is only needed on a graphics card if it is powerful enough to generate more heat than a heat-sink and the internal case fan could take care of

How can i upgrade my video card on an advent 5712 laptop?

I have recently bought the settlers rise of an empire. To run it i need to upgrade the video card, how do i upgrade it and what video card do i need. Thanks|||the video card in a laptop is a fixed video chip on the mainboard, it is soldered in place and not removable. The best you are going to get is update the VGA software, possibly update the mainboard BIOS to improve things but generally this will make no difference at all to whether the graphics chip you have will play the game or not.

The only update option is an add in card and assumes your laptop has a PciE slot in the side to accept a PCMCIA type card. These are still very expensive and fit only a few models of laptop, most of which already have a reasonable VGA device in the first place.

I am surprised Settlers wont run though, I have a copy that a client brought in (because he could not get it to work on his PC, not a laptop) the specs required are fairly low so load what updates you can and see if it will be happy with that, it is possibly the Shader options that it is not compatible with and an update of the VGA drivers may increase the version number sufficiently.

Problem with an upgraded video card in a vaio desktop?

I have an upgraded video card which I understand uses more power than the stock one. When I first installed it the card was working. It lasted about two days and then the pc stopped booting. I don't even get a post beep, but when I put the stock card back in everything works fine. Would too small of a psu allow it to work for a couple days then be so weak that the post beep wouldn't sound, or do you think the card is bad?|||You can try the video card in another PC to see if it works. If it does, then it's the PSU's fault. If it doesn't work, it's the video card's fault. This can occur with either situation. But, in reality, I would think the PSU would be at fault if you can actually see the BIOS splash screen.

All computers have a video card in them. However, some are integrated. I've seen some small computers that have dedicated video cards in them. But they can be pretty small. My laptop has all the requirments so i dont know what the problem is... How can i get Sims 3 to recognise my video card and How can i stop it from crashing?

Thanks x|||It Won't Recognise The Video Card Becuase The Graphics Card Isn't In The System Requirements. If You Look On The Back Of Your CD Case, You Will Find Small Letters In The System Reqirements For Windows Or Mac. They Are The Specified Video & CPU Cards.

Go On www.canyourunit.com.

It Will Scan Your Hardware Components And The System Reqirements And See If Your Graphics Card Is Recognised.

If Not, Upgrade The Graphics Card. If This Dosen't Help, I Don't Know What Else.|||Try downloading the latest video driver from your laptop brand's website, install it and reboot the computer if asked by the installer. If Sims keeps crashing and you don't get an error message that would help finding out the problem source, try reinstalling it from scratch. How can i get audio from my PC mother board to my video card?

Motherboard don't have Spdif pins. But do have a extra set of pins for the front audio. On the front side of Tower. Can i use those pins to get audio to my video card? I'm using a HDMI to my TV. I have Great Video but no sound.|||if your graphics card has hdmi then the drivers for it will automatically output sound throught the hdmi port|||Only way to do that is with a graphics card that has native HDMI port. If you are just using an HDMI adapter to connect to a DVI port of graphics card you will not get any sound. DVI port only carries digital video.

How can I use two monitors to extend my desktop without a video/graphics card?

My computer has one VGA and one DVI port built onto the monitor, but there is no video card except for the built-in one (its an Nvidia something).

Can I still connect two monitors & extend my desktop?

Will a VGA or DVI splitter do the trick?|||No. A splitter merely takes the signal meant for one monitor and duplicates it into two identical signals. It will only display identical images at all times on the monitors connected to the splitter.

If you want to drive two monitors independently (be able to display different things on both screens), you need a video card that supports two monitors.

How much watt power supply would i need for this video card?

I wanna get the ATI radeon 5770 video card, 1GB GDDR5 850 Mhz core clock, how much wattage would i need?|||i jus bought hd 5750 vapor-x and i've also been looking for this card and i researched alot about this card. the max watts that hd 5770 card needs on max is 108w and on the box it says 450w psu is recomended but it also depends on the system but i think 450 is enough for this card. the 5770 takes 18w at idle and 108 at load check this link out. also look at the second link which is ati's origional wesite.hope it helps.|||I'd say anything above 650watts will suffice your entire computer, i have 2 GTS 250 cards on a 650 watt and an i5 processor and it's fine! What kind of output is this on my video card?

I bought a new TV that has an HDMI input. So in order to use this, I bought a DVI to HDMI cable, and a video card that supposedly had a DVI output on it. Well, the cable does not fit the video card. I even tried a normal DVI cable that came with my old monitor - the video card is the problem. It certainly isn't VGA, and it looks similar to DVI but it has two extra sets of holes - meaning it is too big for the DVI cable. What could this be?|||I've provided you a link of all command video connector formats to help you determine what you've got.

Its completely possible that your video card has an HDMI connector, they do exist.... pretty rare right now, but they'll get more and more popular in the future. Most new video cards have two connectors, two DVI, two VGA, or one of each.|||Something like:

How to check if video graphics card is installed on motherboard or not?

Thanks in advance :)|||Your video chipset is not replaceable. This is the case with all modern notebooks.

Notebooks don't use video "cards". They have a graphics processor chip integrated into the motherboard. There is no slot for you to install replacement graphics cards.

This was the case with older notebooks that used MXM slots, but they no longer exist.|||There are some MXM cards made

Mobility RADEON HD 4550 or GeForce 9500M GT are NOT made in MXM cards

The list of current MXM cards is very short and available mostly to manufacturers only

What is the best video card a 380w power supply can handle?

I have a Antec Earthwatts 380w continuous power supply, what video card would best suit it? Also, i have a AMD Athlon 64 x2 4400 @ 2.2ghz , what is the best it can handle without bottlenecking it?|||Probably the best video card you can get with a 380W PSU is a HD4670 or a HD4870 (which could be pushing it).

Take a look at this power consumption chart:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/rade…

Note that EVERY card on this list is under the 380W mark. Of course, you will probably want to have some headroom for further upgrading and such. So the HD4870 would probably be your best bet here. For Nvidia, a GTX260 would probably be sufficient.|||If you like AMD, I would suggest a ATI Radeon HD 4000 series. Possibly a 47xx and below will be good for you with that power supply.

Depending on what your motherboard supports may limit your options. If you have a PCI-e x16 slot on the mobo, you should be good.

If you only have AGP, I would suggest using that money to upgrade the board.|||You can try Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 1 GB DDR5 Dual DVI-I / HDMI / DP PCI-Express Graphics Card 100283L http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002RWJ…

What is the best video card for gaming i could get with a 450 watt power supply?

So I need a new video card because mine is not really a card , It's built in the mother bored and its a Nvidia Geforce 6150 LE , So it's insanely old and doesnt work that good cause its built in so i play off my motherbored basicly. What is the best video card i could get to use with a 450watt power supply? I dont want it to fry my pc.|||That's a tough question to answer, because QUALITY of power supplies is so variable from one brand to another. Do you have a 450W power supply? Do you REALLY?!? Or do you have one of millions of "450W" power supplies that perform about as well as a good 300W power supply?

If your power supply is a good name brand AND has at least 30A available on the +12V rail AND has a PCI-Express graphics card connector . . .

I think your best bet for a video card that won't bring your system to it's knees is a HD 5670. Good gaming video card, requires a minimum 450W power supply.

If your power supply is an off brand or you're not sure of the brand . . .

Probably be better to buy a decent power supply first, and then you'd have a better selection of video cards, also.

Do i need a video card for desktop computers?

I heard that some laptops are bad for gaming because they will need a video card replacement or something. Do desktop computers need video cards to play games like the sims 3 and flight simulators too?|||The $400 computer wouldn't matter. I found a Nvidia 9500 video card for a computer for like $400 and it runs most games perfectly.

You need videocard in order to get new graphics, in some cases, you need a new motherboard.|||It depends...if you buy a $400 computer, than most likely yes. Cheap computers are built for office work, not gaming.|||That depends on your motherboard....

But usually yes you do need a a Video card..

I have 2 in what they call Crossfire ( so i can play games really fast with no lag)|||Today's up to date desktops can handle alot of games on low settings without a graphics card. To play say the Sims 3 I really think a graphics card would be needed.

But you don't need to get an expensive one, there are loads of older ones out there on eBay that will work fine. As long as your not wanting the best graphics ever.

Where can I check to see if my video card supports dual monitors?

I have a nVidia geforce FX 5200 video card and im using it with windows xp.|||Check the back, if it's got two ports it supports two monitors. Make sure you have the most up to date official drivers/software.|||I'm using an FX 5200 video card also. It has a DVI and a VGA connector on the back. When I bought it, it came with a DVI to VGA connector, you use this to attach the DVI connector on the card to a second monitor (assuming your second monitor has a VGA connector). You'll also need to download the Nvidia drivers and software for this video card to get it to work with dual monitors. The 5200 does support dual monitors, I've got mine setup to work with dual monitors .Windows XP will not support the dual monitor feature of this card unless you install Nvidia's software either download from their website or use the CD with your video card.

Your game won't run well. You'll have to turn it down the the absolute lowest settings and it will still be choppy and might lock up periodically. That's all.|||1. your integrated graphics will never be physically effected, 2. That particular integrated graphics will fail miserably in any 2004 + game , the best it can run i would say is half life 2.|||Definitely no. If you want to play high graphics games, you need at least 512 MB graphic card. Or if you can afford, a 1 GB graphic card would be much better. Nvidia graphic cards are considered best.|||nothing will happen to the video card, the game will just not run well

When a video card says the memory is 1300MHz (effective) what exactly does that mean?

I just bought a new video card that I thought had memory that was running at 1300Mhz but it only runs at 650Mhz according to Nvidia nTune. I was wondering exactly what the (effective) part meant after the memory speed.|||Your video card memory is DDR or double-data-rate memory. Would the laptop be able to handle this? And what else can it handle, any NVIDIA card?|||1) What are other specs of your system? If your processor and ram is not good enough, new graphic card won't help.

2) I have Sony Vaio FW-290 Series laptop (bought 2 weeks ago from www.newegg.com). It has 512MB ATI RAEDON 3650M Graphic Card, 16.4" - 1980x1080 Full HD Display (which is stunning), 4GB RAM, P8400 Processor, 320GB Hard-drive (7200rpm).... It IS super fast... I played "Prince of Persia" and "Tomb Raider:Underworld" and it delieverd v good performance. Cost: $1200 (incl. shipping + free sony bluetooth speakers)... So point is that first of all I don't think you can change/upgrade "your choice" of graphic card in a laptop... 2ndly, it will cost you a hell lot of money IF you can do it some how.. (min $500 to $1000+).

SO,

3) I would suggest you to save some money and buy a new laptop!... and sell your old vaio if you want to... (you can find a GOOD gaming laptop upto $1200)

I hope it helped

Good luck!

4) From usage perspective, It DOES NOT make any difference if you go for NVidia or ATI graphic cards....as long as they have same memory.... DDR3 would make difference provided it has supporting RAM and processor...

Can a new video card work with an integrated motherboard?

The motherboard of my computer is integrated, and came with a video card already installed. I just bought a new video card (Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS). It SHOULD work. The video card is PCI, and so is my motherboard. But, when inserted, my computer completely shuts off and stops working until the card is removed.|||You're not trying to install the card WHILE the computer is ON are you?

You may need to change a setting in the Bios to allow for the new card. Otherwise it's likely that your power supply isn't sufficient or you have a faulty card/slot.|||Your power supply doesn't have enough wattage to power your card, get a better power supply|||If your PSU (Power Supply Unit) can't give enough to meet the card's demands, it will cause your computer to either:

A) Not start. This is the case for very low output PSUs (~200w)

B) Randomly shut off. This is the case for low-medium output PSU (~300w).

You often need at least 450w for a GeForce. Consult your manual about the card's power needs then adjust your PSU accordingly (IE: Go buy a new one). Make sure your new PSU has the proper power connectors for all of your current components.

How much difference does a video card with onboard memory have vs. a video card that shares the system memory?

Specifically regarding day to day activities like casually surfing the internet? Is the higher performance of the video card "kick in" when needed or because of the memory, is the higher performance constant?|||Minor difference.

An integrated graphics will share system memory. As opposed to a dedicated graphics card that will have memory on its own, and freeing up system memory, thus making web surfing a bit more faster, even tho u probably wont notice it.

Youll need a graphics card if your into watching lots of DVD's, video editing, gaming, designing, picture/photo editing and any other app that requires graphics.|||The difference is that you use dedicated VRAM instead of system RAM. You will probably not notice any difference in the senario you describe.|||wouldn't see any different for surfing the internet.

Go thru your control panel by going to start>settings>control panel and then double click on system and then hardware and then device manager. Then pick display adapters on the plus sign and you should see what your video card is. Also you could right click on your desktop screen and then properties and then settings and the next screen should show your video card under display. Best to you...|||Dude, right-click an empty area of your desktop and select Properties. Go to the Settings tab and click on the Advanced button. Depending on the type of video card you have, you'll notice that one of those tabs has lots of options and information and that's where all that good stuff hides. I have an Nvidia based card and the tab is called "GeForce 7900 GS".

If you're still curious, go to the Start Menu, Run and type:

dxdiag.exe

Look under the Display tab and you should see tons of information about the device. If nothing happens after you type dxdiag.exe (or you get an error message) you need to download DirectX from Microsoft which is ESSENTIAL to run any video card on any Windows based PC.|||1. Right click you desktop and select properties

2. Click the settings tab

3. In the middle of that window it will say:

Display:

<monitor make and model> on <video card make and model>

For example mine says:

Acer AL1916 on Nvidia 7600 GT

This assumes you have the correct drivers installed.

Can i put a better CPU or video card in my Dell Inspiron 1545?

My question is can i put a better or gaming video card or CPU into my dell inspiron 1545 laptop. Im a gamer and trying to get better quality maybe a Nvida Geforce or anything that wuld improve my preformance thank you.|||Basically no as the video/graphics card is a chip set made into the mother board and not upgradable.

How to play games if your video card is not supported?

I try to play Guitar Hero III but i have Intel Integrated chipset on my laptop and it's not supported. Any way to trick the game that I use different video card ???

Thanks|||i have no idea how to do that.|||usually game makers "don't support" graphics cards that are incapable of satisfactorily displaying the graphics they have worked hard to create. So even if there were a way to trick the game into working, most likely the game would be practically unplayable... the Intel Integrated Graphics chipset is incredibly slow.|||Impossible. Even if you could some how 'trick' the game, you wouldn't even be able to run the game because the integrated graphics card can't handle the movement of the game.|||With laptops, the only way to do that is to swap you motherboard. The reason being is that all graphics are intergrated onto the board.

Where are the details about my video card and sound card?

I know in control panel>System , it shows the processor and RAM, but I don't know what kind of video card and sound card I have. I need to know for purchasing software and games.|||go to start>run then type dxdiag then press enter|||as above :D

or alternativly you could go to device manager.

start-My comp-right click-properties-device manager.

that way is usually more helpfull with driveres etc.

How do I figure which replacement video card to buy?

I am pretty sure the video card in my computer has died, (desktop PC) It is a Radeon 9600 Pro which I think is some kind of fancy gaming card. I want to replace it with something inexpensive since all I do is get on the net and use Office apps. How do I figure out what to buy? My late husband, who loved to game, built this computer and I have no manuals, etc, Thanks!|||The Radeon 9600 Pro is an older card which uses the AGP interface, so you'll need an AGP card to replace it.

If you're not a gamer, a basic inexpensive card like a GeForce FX5200 will be fine.

Here's one with free shipping:

And here's a Radeon 9250, but why pay $7 shipping?

How difficult is it to install an AGP video card?

I currently have a Compaq Presario S4220NX. I checked the computer to find that I have an AGP slot for a video card. But right now my monitor is plugged into the motherboard (I do not currently have a video card) and I did some research and found that I am going to have to do a little extra to make this things work. I was wondering if anyone else has had to do a similar process, if anyone could direct me to a site that helps with computers with no previous video card, and could tell me generally if it is difficult or if a newbie like me could pull it off.

Note: I'm experienced with computers, I've just never put in a video card before.|||I have a Compaq Presario and I installed a video card in the AGP slot. I'm sure I know even less about computers than you do. It's pretty easy. Just go to the Compaq Presario website, and look up how to install a AGP video card. You probably should print out the directions before you shut down the computer.|||It isn't all that difficult to hook an AGP card up. You open the case, remove a slot door (the first one on the right as you face the front of the machine nomally), push the card into the AGP slot

Make sure it is securely seated (you may have insert a screw to hold it in place), close the case, connect your monitor cable and reboot.

Now, you might have to load some drivers. That is explained in the manual you get along with a CD or DVD containing the drivers.|||its not hard at all, just follow the instructions on the graphic card box|||Most computers have an AGP slot, usually it is brown and it is always located above the PCI slots (which usually are white). the slot itself is positioned closer to the edge of the motherboard then the PCI slots. If you find this slot, just plug in the videocard, switch the cable of your monitor and it should work.

However, if you have a very old computer (Pentium II or III) your AGP slot may be deprecated, there are various versions of AGP. Most computers and videocards nowadays are compatible with AGP 8x.

It is possible, if you have an older computer, that an AGP slot is not available, only PCI.

The newer standard is PCI Express, you won't have this unless you have a state-of-the-art computer.

Oh, some videocards of the latest generation require you to connect power cables to them. That's because the AGP slot doesn't supply enough power for the newest GPUs.

That's about all there is to know about installing an AGP card ;)|||To install an agp card...

Step 1: Remove current video processor drivers. It will ask for a restart...

Step 2: Enter system bios before it boots up and disable your integrated graphics processor. (sometimes this is not possible on manufactured computers) but i think you can also do it through device manager under 'my computer'.

Step 3: Shut down computer and Turn off power to power supply

Step 4: Insert new video card and connect power wire (if required for your specific card)

Step 5: Turn on power to power supply and Turn on your computer

Step 6: (Here you have 2 choices) You can install the drivers off your cd OR you can download and install the latest drivers off the net. (your screen maybe in 8-bit color mode until the drivers are installed so do not panic)

Step 7: Enjoy your new video processing capablilities...|||You will also have to disable onboard graphics, in the BIOS.

Nobody mentioned it.

My motherboard does not have integrated graphics. Do I need to buy a dedicated video card?

I am building a computer and my motherboard does not have integrated graphics. Do I need to buy a dedicated video card or can I run programs without it? I will not be gaming.

Feel free to ask for more description. Please be detailed in your responses.|||Yes you will need to get a dedicated video card. If your budget is tight you won't even have to spend that much for a decent card that will allow you to play full 1080p hd and output it through HDMI. I can recommend the Radeon HD 5450 512MB 64-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.1 graphics card.|||Yes, you will need a dedicated video card if your motherboard does not have integrated graphics. Without it, you will not be able to run a display. Furthermore, more and more programs are being coded today with GPU acceleration. Without a video card, you won't get GPU acceleration.|||Yes

check here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?i…|||If there is no graphics on motherboard how will you see anything, so yes you will need a graphics card.|||You will need to buy some kind of graphics device if you want to be able to see what you're doing on the computer.|||Some form of graphics chip is necessary. I'd go with the Radeon HD 4350 or the GeForce 210.

How do I find out what type of disk drive I have and what kind of video card?

I am tiring to see if my computer would support The Sims 3 and i cannot figure out how to find the speed of my disk drive and the type of video card it has?

Thanks!|||I recommend you to download Driver Detective which scans your computer in few seconds and then it shows all the objects your computer has. Incl. the video card and disk drive! And then you easily can get more information about it with clicking on it.

What is the best way to test a video card on a computer?

Is there a program or site that allows me to see if my card is being used at its best setting? Basically I want to see how well my new system handles the video card.|||use benchmark softwares like sisoft sandra

active benchmar etc.

How would Video Card Performance be affected if the computer only meets the minimum power requirements?

If I had a computer with a 350 Watts power supply, but i want to upgrade to a stronger video card, but most newer cards say 350 Watts minimum. What should i do?|||if it meets the minimum it will work the minimum is calculated with just a little room to spare|||Put in a bigger power supply...|||it is better to have more power and not need it than it is to need it and not have it. System stability will be degraded.

Get a bigger power supply.

Also, you need to check out your MOBO. many of the newer cards drag more power than the mainboard can stand, and main boards get blown out.

What could be the best video card for a Pentium dual core?

The CPU is at 2.7ghz, Just wanting to know what would be the best video card for it without bottlenecking it. Thanks for looking|||A video card that doesn't need it's own power cord is about the most that processor will probably do justice to. You can use higher rated video cards (assuming you have the PCI Express x16 video card slot), but you are likely to hit cpu bottlenecks before the video card gets maxed out.

Something like the Radeon HD 5670 or GeForce 9800 GT (550 MHz) is the most I'd install in that system.

What video card could my comp handle?

I have a hp media center m7060n and my nvida GeForce fx 5500 oc 256mb video card is going out, I can find a replacement but I was wondering if there is a better card that this computer could handle. It's pci not pci express and the salesman at the time said this was the biggest card that the comp could run. Thanks for any advice.|||http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

this is the fastest video card you can run. 9400gt. pci.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

here's a list.

there's the 6200, and 8400gs as well.|||Graphic gards generally fixed in AGP ports( Advance Graph ice Port), it's better u buy a 512Mb NVIDIA or 1GB Graph ice card for best Performance|||The 9400gt that Mitch linked is probably the fastest one you can get.

When i update my Video Card resolution changes, is this bad?

I updated my Video Card last time, i rebooted my computer and started fine. But my resolution changed is this bad? Because i don't have the answer so i reversed it. Is this bad or something?|||No, It is not bad and Yes you can change your resolution.

Setting up a video card with a brand new computer?

I just bought a new computer with all of the components. The motherboard, which is a Intel Desktop Board D915PGN, has no onboard video. The motherboard currently has 2.5 GB of RAM and a pentium 4 3.00Ghz cpu. There is no OS installed. Is it possible to use VisionTek Radeon HD 5450 1GB video card to get video from the computer?.|||a Pentium 4 is not a new. the mother board/it has a PCIe slot

the card will fit the motherboard and you should be able to install a OS on it|||When you load your software it will install basic drivers for your graphics card. When you have installed your motherboard drivers, reboot and then install your graphics drivers.|||Not if there is no operating system installed.

What kind of video card will work with my computer?

I'm not too smart when it comes to stuff like this. I have an HP pavilion a1226n. I don't know if I need to get a certain kind of video card or what. Help would be nice.

Thanks.|||After checking your machine on the HP website (see link below), it seems that the best vid card for you would be an ATi product.

If you want to go uber card, that would be the $600 HD4870X2, which is the best Production Card (i.e.: they made enough for the card to be obtainable) made. However, it is a large card (physically), so your case may not be able to handle it. That having been said, an HD class video card (avoid the 2900, it is literally over 12" long, and few cases as old as yours can handle it), will be perfect. Depending on what you want it for, you can stay at the lower end of the pool and pick-up a 2600. If you want to play in the deep end of the pool, you can buy a 4xxx class card - with the 48xx series being the best.

So, for gaming, you will want one or more cards - HD4870's for example.

For surfing and watching DVDs, the HD2600 will be fine.

While you're at it, you mght want to talk to a Computer Store (not Best Buy, Circuit City, etc) about having them upgrade your system (either a full upgrade, or a socket 939 dual core CPU). I would also suggest adding memory if you are still running the default 1Gb that the system came with. Either add a single 1Gb stick (of DDR, *NOT* DDR2), or swap-out the 512s for 1Gb sticks. Either way, you're doubling your physical memory.

Now...you will hear a lot of people telling you to go nVidia...don't. You have an ATi chipset, and nVidia cards have been know to occasionally cause problems in non-nVidia chipsets. Stick with ATi if you have an ATi chipset. Zero compatability issues. Just remember to update your drivers for the vid card from the AMD/ATi website periodcally (driver updates are released every month). (2nd link below.)

EDIT: You may also have to upgrade your PSU (Power Supply)...|||For HP nvidia is the best one

If this helps you please give as the "Best Answer"|||First you need to check to see how big your power supply is. Also check to see if you have a pic/pci express slot. Most cards on the market now are pci express 2.0 cards. If your power supply is to small you have to change it out or else it will not boot up because there isn't enough power for the new card.|||open it - look inside - you'll see a few white slots - those are pci. now look above all those white slots and see if there's a brown slot - that'll be agp. you're better off to go with agp if at all possible, however there are some really good pci video cards for people whose machines don't have an agp slot.

you could call hp and sit on the phone with someone on mars, or just buy one locally with the understanding if it doesn't work you can bring it back.

if you're running 'onboard' video right now, you 'might' have to set the bios to recognize any other video card - although most of the time the bios will already be set to look for an agp or pci before it detects the onboard, so just try it first.

as far as what 'brand' or 'kind' - you're not limited. just buy something you can afford. because just about anything is bound to be better than onboard.|||well like the other comment said, nvidia and you'll have to get one that will fit your motherboard, so youll need one that is either pci or pci express|||it supports pci express 16x alot of these would work

What type of Video Card can i install?

I have a AOpen AX45-V SiS 645 Socket 478 Motherboard with an Intel Pentium 4 2.0 ghz processor. Ram is 1gb and has plenty of pci-e slots available. the max power supply currently installed is 300watts.

1) My question is can I install the ATI Radeon x1600 pci on my motherboard. The reason is to be able to play the newer games like Dirt and NFS: Carbon which require these higher video cards.

2) I suppose I can't install the x1650 because it requires a power source of 450w and I am not planning on upgrading my power source.

3) Any other recommendations you have on which is the best video card for my system given it'll allow me to play the newer games.

Thanks.|||1)That motherboard does not have ANY PCI-e slots on it. It has one AGP and 6 STANDARD PCI slots.

You are confusing the original PCI bus with the new PCI-e bus. These are totally different interfaces and are not interchangeable.

They do make the X1600 for the AGP bus, that would be the route you will have to go.

2) The power supply recommendation is generally playing it safe. If you do not have a lot of components (multiple hard drives and CD/DVD drives, lots of PCI cards and a bunch of memory sticks) you will probably have enough power for it.

Here is a link to a site that has a good power calculator:

http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psuca…

3) I would actually spend a little more money on a video card such as the Nvidia 7600GT, they outperform the x1600 by a good margin and are not too much more expensive.|||Perhaps you should invest in a larger power supply and expand your video card options. Look at it this way: Sooner or later, you'll need to do it.

I want to liquid cool, do I only need to liquid cool my video card and processor?

Do I really need to cool anything else than my video card and processor? I could get stuff for my memory but I think a silent fan cooling adapter would be plenty enough. I want to overclock my i7 920 and Sapphire 5870. Also would you recommend separate coolers for the card and processor? Like each have their own radiator and water block?\.|||GPU and processor are the only things that may get hot enough to warrant liquid cooling. And the cpu only needs exotic cooling if you are overclocking it. If you aren't it's just a waste of money.

The "correct" way to cool is making the water flow from the hottest component to the least hottest component. Then of course back to the radiator to cool, through the reservoir, and back again. Just get a big radiator, like one that takes up two 80mm fan spaces. In most computer cases that are meant for gaming, there are spaces for two fans right next to each other. That's the perfect spot for a double radiator. Never a need for multiple reservoirs. And obviously, the cpu and gpu each have their own waterblock that makes contact with that particular component. When you said "each have their own waterblock", I think you meant reservoir, because everything that needs to be cooled needs a waterblock.|||Intel doesn't allow overclocking.

How can I increase the performance of my video card on my Windows XP?

I want to run Fallout 3 but my video card isn't good enough and I don't want to go out and buy a new one.

It says I'm running like an Intel card, but I don't know how to access my settings.|||First you do a right click an empty space on desktop, and choose properties.

Then you can open the video settings. Make the resolution lower, and the frame rate higher.

Some video cards let you share memory from RAM for video use. Don't know about yours without more info.

Do another boot setup without most of the crap that starts and robs your system of performance. Then you can go to a game and it will run much faster.

Easiest way is to do another user for the game, log in with that, and then go to Run...command...msconfig and Startup. Uncheck almost everything not needed to run basic machine and your game. Apply, close, reboot.|||if you are on a desk top computer then you can replace the card with a used but much better card at your local flea market cheaply if it is a laptop you are stuck with what it has

Will I run into lots of issues trying to install a new video card on this integrated chip? Or will it be as simple as dropping in a new card? I'm a MAC guy and this if my first PC. Any help would be great!

Thanks|||Presuming that your motherboard has a PCI Express x16 slot, all you do is install the new card. Be aware though that there is a 99% chance you will also have to upgrade your power supply in order to power the new card. Manufactured computers come with PSUs that are lower end usually and are designed to only barely power what your system came with and very little power is needed to run your current integrated Intel GMA|||Yes. You can but you should uninstall the integrated drivers before you install the card. Sometimes when you install a graphics card it may conflict with the integrated drivers, so I would disable the integrated graphics after you install the card. What does a powerful video card do for you? (other than assist high end video games)?

I know that a strong video card is the cornerstone of any gaming computer.

What I don't know is why an average person would need a powerful video card. Is there any reason at all why someone who's not planning on gaming should even get a 9600GT?

I'm talking about any situation you can think of.

Rendering doesn't make the cut as a viable answer - that depends more on processor and RAM.|||if not for gaming, then Quality of media graphics or design software etc.

9600gt is a great card for value for money, and I should imagine, in 2 or 3 or 4 years time, it will still be going quite strong, and hopefully meet up the requirements for graphics then.|||What video cards do is help reduce the CPU load. It's actually basically a secondary cpu. When things from opening windows to loading up simple programs, video cards can perform most of the calculations which makes CPU usage lower, which in return makes your computer more responsive when performing multiple activities.

EX. Also if you watch high definition videos, your video card will take all the load, so in the end, you wont notice any slowdowns while watching a movie and doing other tasks.|||if you are going to view a hd video i mean like blu ray disks they do require a small amout of video ram seperate from the ram. and video edtiting would also require video cards. other than those reasons...a typical person would not need a high end or even a seperate graphics card(dedicated). thats why most computer dont have them.|||GPUs can be used to accelerate programs. The 9600GT has CUDA, which can accelerate Photoshop CS4 and other programs. It makes it less of a hassle to work with 50GB files.

GPUs can also be used to encode videos. They're pretty fast at it.

The other people around me have the other tasks covered.|||There isn't really a reason why a person would need such power in a video card. Most applications don't need the high end specs of a gaming machine. Its pretty much the gamers that fuel these chip makers to faster and more powerful hardware.

How does an external video card work on a laptop?

Does having an external video card mean that you can treat a laptop as something with greater graphical power? For example, if a laptop has a very low-end Intel video card, can an external video card compensate for it and allow the video card to play high-end games, such as Crysis or Assassin's Creed?|||Dan, depends on what you are willing to spend.

On the low end(less than $50) there are USB adapters that allow you to add monitors to laptops. They do most of their graphics processing by using your CPU, and they are kind of limited in the way of resolution. So if you are looking at playing games this would not be a good solution.

There are companies that make full featured external cards, but they can run well over $1000. Take a look at the Sidecar.

http://www.digitaltigers.com/sidecar.asp…

There is also the option to add a card slot from an external box like the Magma Expressbox.

I don't know what your budget is like, but in some of these cases it might just be cheaper to buy a new laptop.|||No. External Video Cards are for those that need to run an additional monitor. They are not for gaming. Likely you are limited not only by your video card but also your ram and processor.|||it sounds like external graphics cards are just for boosting your resolution and showing your laptops image on a monitor. It does no boosting of performance.

so the answer to your question is no

How do I know if the video card or monitor is bad?

It seems as though the blue in either the video card or the monitor is not working.|||It might be the video card, but i think it is most likely your monitor.

First, check the color settings in your monitor, and make sure some joker didn't turn down the "blue" setting.

Is your monitor an old CRT? if so, then the blue cathodes might be dying, and the rest will likely die soon too. It's in your best interest to replace your monitor.

If it is an LCD monitor, and the color settings are right, then it may be the video card.|||CRT Monitor hardly fail to operate except LCD monitor. LCD monitor is more like to fail than a old type CRT monitor cos of gases in the screen compartment.

Blue means your vga connector pin may be dented or missing or lose connection to your vga port card.

Press the menu of the monitor, if the OSD - on screen display works, then it your graphic card problem.|||Its most likely a problem with the monitor. Go into your Monitors menu and restore the factory default settings. If that does not fix the blue problem, go into the custom settings and move the Blue value all the way to the left, then all the way to the right. See if this changed anything. If not, try unplugging the VGA cable and trying to connect your monitor with a different VGA cable.|||Well, if your using a seperate graphics card, try plugging the monitor into the onboard. If all goes well with that, its your video card. If it still has the same problem, your monitor is busted.|||Also clean the cable running to the monitor. It is pretty normal for the prongs to get dirty blocking them form sending data. They can also get damaged rather easily if it is regularly unplugged, so I would check that too.

Dont pay until youve tried the free stuff, even if its unlikely.|||It is never the video card. When video cards start having issues, it's usually that there is no picture at all or the picture will go out after the video card is warm.

You might want to try jiggling the cable as sometimes that is all that is wrong.

It's more than likely a bad pin or bad gun in the monitor.|||try hooking each up in a different computer, 1 at a time and eliminate the problem|||unplug the monitor from the back of the computer... leave it plugged in to the wall.. turn the monitor on.... if you see test or any other words on the screen and the colors look good.... its NOT your monitor..

If i connect a Radeon 5830 video card on an Asus P5k motherboard will it work properly?

I have an Asus P5K motherboard with 3 PCI, 2 PCI-E x1, 2 PCI-E x16 slots and i was wondering if the 5830 video card will work with no problems at ful potential.|||yes. But other comp resources are required to use some apps such as minimum processor and so on. But the vid card will work fine.

What can a Tul Corporation ATI Radeon X1550 video card play?

I just got this video card, and am wondering how good it is? Can it play WoW, and call of duty?|||hahaha, its a good card to play WoW, COD1 2 3, but i think its getting lag on COD 4, try to test it on BattleField 2142, if looking good, then thats a good card

Cheers, ^o^

How can I get my chipset family 945GM video card to be compatible with derectX 9.0c?

It works with every version up to 9.0 but not with 9.0c which is required to run the sims2. I have a dell laptop and can't replace the video card. Is there a patch or something I can download?|||I could be wrong because I don't follow onboard video that much, but I thought the 945 was DX9c compatible. Try searching Intel's website for any driver updates. Check the sims2 website for any patches. My wifes 9700pro plays sims2 just fine, so certainly your more recent card could also.|||no video cards are either compatible or not. its a hardware thing you can't just make the video card accept 9.0c

The best you can do is download directx 9.0c and if it doesnt work then you're out of luck until you can find another computer with a better video card

Do I have to tell the computer to detect a video card?

I have a cheap 128mb builtin motherboard video card and want to buy a better video card.

If I install it in the computer with the drivers that came with it, will it automatically detect it?

If no, then how do I tell the computer to detect it?|||yeah, if you buy a video card just install the drivers on the cd after you pop it in and you are all set. make sure to plug your monitor into the new video card.|||Yes, the disc that comes with the card, sets the pc to detect the device, and all should be fine.|||You do not need to tell it as long as all of the drivers are installed. In your case, they are not installed, so you have to look up the video card and download the drivers.|||if it's plug and play (PnP) it will work by itself

always install the driver first|||whoa never use the drivers on the cd it is the first firmware and usually glitchy. go tot he site of the manufacturer and dl the newest drivers

What happens when I put a video card whose watt requirement surpasses my power supply?

I plan on purchasing an ATI x1300 pro 256 mb 350 watt video card, but my power supply says 300 watts. Will anything happen to my computer? I dont think the card will use the full 350 watts anyway.|||Big TROUBLE!!!!!! MELTDOWN!!!!!!! I service PCs and Macs.

FIRST of all, the power supply is alread putting up with the maximum watts needed by the SYSTEM! You would be piling ANOTHER 300 watt load on top of a 350 watt load!

The "Advertised" wattage of PC power supplies are over inlflated about 50%. That "300 watt" unit probably makes about 175 watts during the surge, for less than ten seconds, upon power up. It's steady output is probably 150 watts, as tested under a steady load, MAXIMUM SUSTAINED.

It is barely able to give out what is required for your regular system load. If you have added any other drives, it is at the limit!

Tom's Hardware, AnandTech, and several PC magazines, have berated the Power Supply manufacturers for cheating the consumer.

If you want to run that video card in a STABLE environment, so it doesn't smoke from the power oscillations, you NEED to buy a genuine 550 watt supply!!! Don't even think of getting a 400, 450, or 500 watt unit! Expect to spend about $90. It will be worth it, and will run cooler, quieter!

The typical Central processor needs 80 to 120 watts, the mainboard needs about 20 watts, unless video and sound, LAN, are on board, which pulls lots more watts, and each CD/ DVD, and Hard drive pulls a steady 25 watts.

Add in the fans at 5 watts EACH! Count the CPU cooler, and any case fans. Then, power for any case lights, at about 20 watts, unless you know for certain.

Each PCI card pulls about 3 to 10 watts There are calculators all over the web, if you'll search google.com .

Power Oscillations occur when the switching PSU is over loaded for it's rated regulators. Instead of shutting down, the regulators restart, reach full power, go into over load, 'crowbar' their output and shutdown. Then, the cycle repeats.

It is a 5 cycle per second oscillation, and totally blows everything on the mainboard and in the drives (on their controller boards).

It is your system, and you can try to flaunt the laws of physics, but, in the end, you will pay now, or you will pay later! Later, it will be the entire system, as I've seen before.|||I think you'll be fine as long as you don't have your power supply plugged into too many things. If suddenly certain things stop working like your cd roms, hard drive or certain parts aren't being recognized by windows, then you need to go ahead and get a new power supply.|||you would want to replace your power supply with much bigger power.

If you video card is not receiving the power it needs to run... it is not going to run. even if you video card does somehow, other parts of the computer: cdroms, dvd roms, floppy drive etc might not get the power they need.

So go and buy something over 400 watts.

it'll do the trick

good luck|||You will get a reverse bottle neck, the Graphics Card wont work right and you may end up damageing it if you try to run load, advise you upgrade your PSU.
