I want to put a new video card into my Vaio FW because the card is not all that great.
Would it be able to handle this card:
BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card? I know that this is a really high performance card that is expensive but i was just going to use it as a reference. Would the laptop be able to handle this? And what else can it handle, any NVIDIA card?|||1) What are other specs of your system? If your processor and ram is not good enough, new graphic card won't help.
2) I have Sony Vaio FW-290 Series laptop (bought 2 weeks ago from www.newegg.com). It has 512MB ATI RAEDON 3650M Graphic Card, 16.4" - 1980x1080 Full HD Display (which is stunning), 4GB RAM, P8400 Processor, 320GB Hard-drive (7200rpm).... It IS super fast... I played "Prince of Persia" and "Tomb Raider:Underworld" and it delieverd v good performance. Cost: $1200 (incl. shipping + free sony bluetooth speakers)... So point is that first of all I don't think you can change/upgrade "your choice" of graphic card in a laptop... 2ndly, it will cost you a hell lot of money IF you can do it some how.. (min $500 to $1000+).
SO,
3) I would suggest you to save some money and buy a new laptop!... and sell your old vaio if you want to... (you can find a GOOD gaming laptop upto $1200)
I hope it helped
Good luck!
4) From usage perspective, It DOES NOT make any difference if you go for NVidia or ATI graphic cards....as long as they have same memory.... DDR3 would make difference provided it has supporting RAM and processor...
