Why is my Video card driver is not recognized?

I noticed one day that my computer is acting very weird. Scrolling webpages take forever, desktop icons look very grainy, and games won't start. I found out that the problem is that my computer is running the "General Video Card driver" and that I nedd to install the correct driver. So I went on Nvidia's website and downloaded/updated my driver, restarted the computer, but it said that it is still using the "General Video Card Driver" Still not allowing me to run any games. Please help me. Thanks in advance.|||You can try this program: Driver Checker.
